Troubleshooting with XP and sound drivers

I am not new to computers and know a bit, but this I can't figure out. My boyfriend hasa new computer he bought that was installed with Windows Vista. He bought a Window's XP disk and installed it onto the computer, but ever since then the sound drivers have not been working. I have tried plugging in two different sets of speakers but still, it is not telling me I have anything plugged in. Can someone tell me what is wrong here?

Hmmmm okay?

So you had Windows Vista installed and your bf installed Windows XP over Vista? Did he do a format of the system before install XP?

What brand is your Computer, including the Model Number?

Maybe i can look around for the driver of that particular operating system.

So im guessing your running Windows XP now?

Could you tell how you fixed it, in case others have a similar problem in the future?

I am guessing they formatted the HDD (before installing Windows XP) this time... I am just guessing of course!
