Q: Updating OpenSSL version used by Apache?

I'm really at a loss here and could use some help... please. This is my server's current configuration...

Quote:
Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) PHP/4.3.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6g

I want to update to OpenSSL 0.9.7c. I had hoped that by installing 0.9.7c and then restarting Apache, that 0.9.7c would just "work". It turns out that wishful thinking wasn't enough to make it work because after restarting Apache it was still using 0.9.6g.

I can only guess that my update to 0.9.7c was partially successful because I found that libssl.so.0.9.7 was added to my "libexec" directory.

So the $64,000 question is... how do I configure Apache to use 0.9.7 instead of 0.9.6?

Please, help!

I'm not sure if this is going to work, but you could try.

find the line in httpd.conf that loads the openssl module and change it to load the new libssl.so.0.9.7

but I'm not sure if it's going to work.
All the times that I've updated those packages it was all going fine

Allowee... thanks for the input. I actually tried this suggestion and found that it results in errors on the restart of Apache server. I can give you details, but essentially it's a bunch of linked-library stuff. I found a white-paper today that suggests that only Apache v2 or above can have SSL updated without a total rebuild of Apache. Should I just scrap this and start from scratch? If so, can you suggest any instructions that would help me rebuild Apache along with SSL using an existing cert?
