Detect another computer as an external HD (USB)Is there any way to possibly detect another computer as an external HD from the main computer over USB?
I'm aware that it is possible using ethernet...but what about USB? I've looked all over online and I'm surprised nobody has any input about this... Thanks. |

Re: Detect another computer as an external HD (USB)Hmmmm? Why scratch your head over this. The simplest way is to get yourself an Ethernet Crossover Cable and plug the cable from one Network Card to another.
Besides, the main advantages of using ethernet over USB is that files get transfered quicker using Ethernet opposed to USB. Note: Remember, get a crossover ethernet cable and not an ordinary Network cable as it wont work. Heres a more detailed explanation on what a crossover cable is... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable __________________

Re: Detect another computer as an external HD (USB)BUT!!
If you still want to use the USB to USB Method you will have to buy a special cable i think.. Here's an article guiding you on what you need to connect 2 PC's using USB http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/248 __________________

Re: Detect another computer as an external HD (USB)Thanks for the reply.
I currently work for the computer repair section of my school and sometimes, we have people bring in computers with broken ethernet jacks (making the use of crossovers useless...) So, thanks for the link to the USB to USB website...I really appreciate it |

Re: Detect another computer as an external HD (USB)After much research, I found out that two Macs can natively have a firewire-firewire connection (a.k.a. Target Drive). Is it possible to do this in linux either over a firewire connection or USB?
