Recent problems with antivirus programmes

Some of you may have heard about some recent major problems with certain antivirus programmes – or may have even suffered from those problems.

I am sorry if you encountered any difficulties with your antivirus programme. I hope that you found a solution for it and that you managed to get your PC up and running again.

For those of you who have not considered Norton lately: Maybe now it would be a good time to take the Norton Challenge and see how we have improved! Check this out - www.takethenortonchallenge.com See how we have enhanced our performance. And just give it a try, there's a money back guarantee!

Please do not claim to be from a certain company when your email address (registered here) does not even match the domain name of the company.

Hmmm...any references for these problems that "other" AV programs had?

Re: Recent problems with antivirus programmes

The worst virus on my PC is NORTONS!!!

Just when I'm running on empty with 3D development and a lengthy render going on it always pops up to ask if I want to update, or some other rubbish and crashes my entire system.

It slows down my system till it freezes. It dares to ask me for personal details to register for it's latest whizzbang widget and far worse than any virus... it accesses every file on my hard drive. Nothing is sacred. Then it wants to send "info" to it's homesite. Well gee that's EXACTLY what a lot of viruses do.

It continually wants to connect to it's homepage which is EXACTLY what a bot virus does!! Pretty much everything a virus does, Norton does, except it doesn't replicate. Adware... ha, Norton pops up all the time to freeze my applications and ask me if I want to update. Isn't that EXACTLY what adware does?

At least you don't even know if a properly written IRC bot is trojaned on your PC. Causes no harm, no popups, doesn't freeze my machine, just minds it's own business. So I turn off Norton most of the time because it's caused me far more problems than any virus ever.

Hey Norton, I own my computer, not YOU!! So stop trying to take charge every five minutes.

There that feels better.
