CHALLENGING Apache/Perl Question

OK, here's my delima. I want to configure Apache so that whenever someone retrieves a file (ie: image or html doc) from the web server it will chime the system bell. The event could be triggered via a cgi script, but I've been unable to find code that will allow perl to interact with the internal speaker. Basically I just want to know when someone is in my server by hearing a short beep. Sounds simple enough, right. Any suggestions?? OS is Mandrake 9.2.

Hello Dean1969,

When I read your first post, I was thinking to myself, "Man... what is this guy smoking?"

... now I must admit that I feel rather foolish for thinking that.

Thank you for sharing the info / link / script.

It was a strange question.

The whole purpose of this is so that I can tell when someone views one of my ebay items. I'm serving my own ebay images.

Glad I could help.

If you are hotlinking the files from your server you could always check the logs and do a simple 'grep' to see the Ebay referrers...

Ebay Referers

I'm actually rinning a cgi program called axs. It rocks! The websound programs beeps every time the axs log gets updated (every visit). The axs script is called via a java script I embed into the ebay listing description. Here's the link:
