Forsa Nvdia 5600FX xT AGP Card

Hi there!
I just finished reading through your forum about the 5600fx problem. I am having the exact same thing!!! I have went to updating to 52.16 then to 53x and back to 45.32, flashed my BIOS,,,Underclocked my GPU, Emailed FORSA to no end and to no avail.

My system: 1.667AMD 2000+ Palamino core/KT3V MSI mainboard/512mg266bus/SBLIVE value/and a piece of crap Forsa 5600fx256mgram AGP8x///My mainboard only supports 4x.

I bought this card 4 months ago, and I like my games! Within 10 to 20 minutes of playing XIII or Max payne2 or even Deus ex2, the screen go's blank! I havent tried 2xAGP yet but, it's not like I want to either. The card is only 270Mhz core. FORSA says they only support 235,325 and 350 for the 5600 series. I'm starting to wonder if I got HOSED by someone!

Today, I'm using powerstrip to underclock my 5600 from 270 to 232Mhz. Now I can play my games for about 30 minutes or so before the screen go's blank on me! 2D is fine, 3D is bullcrap!!! I even thought, maybe my Monitor could be a problem: SONY 200se max res 1280x1024 at 60hz. supported refresh is 85hz,75,72,70, and 60. I play most games in 800x600 at 85hz with vsync on.

I'm lost man!!!!!!!!!!! I need major help. I have been to countless forums looking for a fix! hehehe Can you help me????????

I thank you for any input in this matter. sirellyb@hotmail.com

P.S. OS: WinXP-PRO SP1/Win98SE
Added to the hardware list is 1 8x burner LG/ two 20 gig 7200rpm drives and 3 case fans 80mm, all rides on a 330Watt Enermax.

Pc

Thanks for replying!

On Idle, (45C_Cpu). Full load is around 60C which is still pretty good according to AMD's WebPage, but than again, if I don't have the right cooling for my PC, could I be doing something wrong? / Unsure of the GPU though, You get no more than just the pc-card and a direction to Nvidia's site for drivers. I have a 80mm CaseFan mounted between my SbLive and AGP slot to give more cooling to the Card.

Note: 45C is with the case open playing games. With the side-panel on, Idle is around 50 to 52C.

I hope this helps! and Thanks again!!!

Ok right click on the desktop and then Properties and then settings near the bottom will be an advanced button click it this should open another window that has taps one of them should be GeForce FX 5600 on the side bar will be a temperature settings it will give you the temp of your card. Also have you updated your Direct X?

I know~!!!!!!!!!

I came from Intel Land! Trying out AMD for the first time! The heat factor is to hot for my liking, but, according to amd them selfs, 60c is normal compared to there ceiling of 90c! (ouch)

My Intel ran at 35c... I'm trying to get used to AMD!

Directx

This FORSA-Card doesn't support temp settings unfortunatly...

From what I read at Forsa, only the 5800 and up support the temp monitors.

( I kinda wish that I had bought a MSI or Asus PCB )-( maybe fliped the coin for something better )

As for DirectX, I'm running DX9b for both win98se and WinXP-pro.

You have no idea what this means to me, this site helping me out!
this says a lot for other Forums, I'm still waiting for replys from a week ago.

I can't promise that I'll be able to help but I can promise that I'll get back to you within a day or two. I really like this forum as well it's a really great place to come and chat. Everyone is really nice and there not as up tight here. Have you tried reinstalling the card? If so let me do a little more research and I'll try to found the answer I have a GeForce FX 5600 256 as well but I've never had a problem with. I'll look around for the answer and I'll post here sometime tomorrow and see if I can found anything else. Let me know if you come across something before then.

A little off topic, but while on the cooling subject make sure that your chipset isn't running too hot either. I had a lot of problems this summer with sudden reboots and freeze ups. Had to go with a 'Blue Orb' cooler plus an external fan (with open case). Now my Athlon runs at 35C and the m/b at 21C.

Re-install

I thought it might have been the contacts or blockage in the AGP slot. (There was no debre and the contacts were clean!

Yestersday I thought I'd try AGP2x mode, (I was getting sick and tired of the black screen thing)

Low-&-BeHold!!!!! it worked! I don't understand it, but it worked! My card is a 8x. Should it run at 4x as well??? it wont on my machine, but it will in 2x (go figure!)

I'm playing DEUS EX2 at it's lowest and it seems pretty choppy in FPS. From my understanding, does dx8 only use 2x transfers and upcomming dx9 games like Half-Life2 and Doom3 suppose to stress the 4x bus? I also thought dx10 would actually use the 8x bus...
