How does this effect you when you decide to change your domain name?

I noticed you're on the first page of google when you search for 'Web Design Forums'. Will your SEO be effected at all during this move?

I assume you're asking about the effects of my move on search engine listings?

It may or may not effect the listings - incase it does, it will be short term. I can only speculate that it shouldn't.

FWIW, I already noticed ONE listing on Yahoo (of all the places!) to www.gidforums.com and NOT www.desilva.biz/forum/. Noticed this yesterday... so I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting it on Google first but this was not the case... Which makes me wonder about Yahoo and inktomi.

and yes, I used rewrite rules at www.desilva.biz/forum to return a 301 - moved permanently response and re-direct the reader and search engine bots here as I always do when moving or renaming files.

It has always worked well... so there was (is) no doubt things will be different this time.

Interesting. I wanted to change back my domain name but I didn't want to because I figured I would get a poor ranking in search engines.

Heh. Well I HAD www.mrbobswebdesign.com. However, my host was a complete IDIOT and wouldn't give me my name back. In fact, it was due for registration on Nov 13th, guess what? He renewed it for another freakin' year!

Thanks for the offer, I am going to bug the hell out of him now about it, and once he gives it up I will look into changing the domain back to what it should be.

I assume you're asking me?

The DMOZ listing was something jrobbio did for me (I have had no luck with DMOZ in the past)... but yes, I did request a URL change just a couple of days ago.

I would have just left it for Rob again, since he manages to do the impossible sometimes, but he won't be around till April 2004!
