Bad buy: Gigabyte Mouse Model GM-M5000

About a week ago, I bought some computer parts to build myself a brand new Personal Computer. It seems I made a mistake buying the keyboard and mouse combo for this new PC.

The problem which I submitted to Gigabyte's support department:

Quote:
The middle button (scroll wheel) is not working completely.

I can scroll, but when I press the wheel (button), it doesn't allow me to pan or click on a link (firefox).

In the Microsoft Windows' Control Panel, the driver for this mouse is:
Microsoft PS/2 Mouse.

I am looking for a driver for this mouse and keyboard combo (GK-KM5000) if it is available, or if you can suggest a solution.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Model Name : GM-M5000
--------------------------
Firmware :
Serial No. : 0018245
Purchase Dealer :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Motherboard Brand : Asus
Model : P5B
Operation System : Win XP SP : 2

And their reply, a few days later:

Quote:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. About the issue you mentioned, we are sorry to inform you the GM-M5000 do not support the function of the middle button. Sorry for any inconvenience occurred to you. Please kindly note the the GK-KM5000 keyboard & mouse combo do not require to use any specific driver to activate the function. The Microsoft Windows will automatically detect the device and activate the function.

At last, if you still have any further question or suggestion about our products/service, please do not hesitate to contact with us directly. We will try our best to help you resolve the problem ASAP.

******** Thank you for supporting Gigabyte products ***********

So they sold you a device that they admit doesn't function as it's supposed to? I'd take it back to the store and get a different model. Take the email response with you to show that it doesn't work as advertised.

On a side note, I wasn't even aware that Gigabyte made mice or keyboards. Chances are they buy some generic ones and slap their name on them.

Re: Bad buy: Gigabyte Mouse Model GM-M5000

I am not going to waste my time and expenses driving into town just to argue with some sales person for him to replace a mouse. Besides, I picked the item off the shelf myself, no one suggested I take it.

I am just going to use my old mouse, at least I know it works.

As for Gigabyte, well, let's just say I will not go out looking for their products in the near future. And to think I was even looking at their Motherboards! Thank god I eventually picked the Asus one.
