Beginning OpenGL

i have been using c++ for ~1 month now, and i am wanting to start using openGL, but i cant figure out how to get started. I have visual studio 2005, so if someone could help me figure out how to get started using openGL (installing and running openGL), it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Do you realize that OpenGL is C and not C++ in any sort of way?

If so, then you should find what you need at opengl.org

Look for their tutorials.

You can do the 2D stuff that you want with OpenGL, it is just not C++, rather it is C...nothing wrong with that, you just need to "know it" going in.

www.opengl.org is the place to visit for your OpenGL needs. There is a link to a PDF file called the Red Book. While it is probably v1.2, it is still a very good intro to getting started with OpenGL.

If you're going to use Windoze, you may want to download the latest stable release of Mesa and build it. It is an OpenGL work-alike. mesa3d.org
