Looking for Email Hosting, price per year.

A reader asked me to suggest where he can get email hosting for $13.00 - 15.00 / year or lower.

He is an unhappy Yahoo.com email user

Please post your offers in this thread and I will pass on this link to the person interested in this so he may contact you directly.

JdS,

This is probably against the spirit of this thread and forum but I might as well make this suggestion, even though I have no relationship with the service.

Fastmail.fm has a "Member" account for a one-time fee of $14.95. There are some restrictions regarding the length of the username (must be more than 5 or 6 chars), but overall it seems like a good deal.

To be honest, I've been very happy with fastmail's free service and I would probably upgrade if I didn't have my own domains that I can use.

However, could we have some idea of what they want like space, size of attachments, spam blocking etc etc and we'll see if we can come to some agreement. Are they looking for a credible looking domain name like anon@example.com or does it not matter.

Let us know.

Rob

I didn't think that email-only hosting was still cost-effective, but apparently there is still an interest. Here is something in their price range:

If they are possibly interested in a more comprehensive solution, check here.

I could setup a viable e-mail service with only 20 people subscribing using only freeware/GPL'd software with a decent domain name and make a nice little margin out of it, if I was starting from scratch. If they are willing to filter their own spam through bayesian filtering (see Mozilla Thunderbird ) and an irrelevant e-mail address (e.g. @topfunwebsites.com) then I can serve them as 1 person.

The idea I was suggesting is in one of my articles; and the reason I still wonder why people bother sometimes with actually paying for an email service is this:

In the past, some of you may still remember them, there was a web host that was all the rage, cyberwings.com . I think they used to offer hosting for like $5.00 a year. Include a domain for like $8.00 - 10.00 / year and you've got the ability to host email accounts for your whole family and some friends. That comes to a grand total of about $13.00 - $15.00 / year for more than ONE email account and you have complete freedom in the use of these emails, if you're not really into web pages and sites.

I personally don't get it why someone would pay Yahoo! for example over $25.00 / year just so that they can 'pop3' the ONE email account. It didn't make sense then and it STILL doesn't make any sense to me at all!

I know ONE domain 'registrar' who still offers FREE web space and email hosting including something like 25MB of storage space for $9.00/year; but I am hesitant to promote them here or any where else on my site(s) simply because they discriminate and I will have NOTHING to do with them.

Instead of doing that, I thought I'd see if someone else here would like to package a hosting like this.

If I were a web host, I'd do this... The revenue may be low but the costs is even lower since someone looking to download his or her email via Outlook will not have much use for the web space you offer.

Due to people who signup just for SPAM, I have a specific limit on my e-mails. If he was to send out a reasonable amount of e-mails I will do it for $15/year. He can also have a splash page for his site too.

FWIW, the Fastmail member account is $14.95 for life, as long as the company is still around. Two things I would probably want in an email host are high uptime/reliability and support for multiple protocols.

Thank you.

A lot of good suggestions here, so I emailed Aleksander (that's his name) the link to this page and he can decide what he wants to do...

Aleksander, if you haven't seen this yet, I will give you a free 2 day trial for the e-mail hosting. However I strongly inforce that you do not come to me in order to spam on my server because it is against our policy.

Check out www.mrbobdouglas.com/hosting for more information about our hosting.
