What will be the future of music?

Before anyone accuses me of creating a nonfalsifiable thread subject, keep in mind that music is what we make it, and you will have a hand in that as an artist and/or audience member.

So how do you think music will change?

How do you want it to change?

Personally, I see music getting more and more integrated into cross-platforms, such as lasers, lights, etc. as well as more into the realm of interactive live performances.

I think we have just about run the gamut on the full range of noises that the human ear can detect, so beyond that, I think we may start crossing into the realm of expanding that range with science and then going from there.

Speculation, sure, but again, which direction do YOU want it to go?

Much depends on the society and people I think.

Re: What will be the future of music?

I think music will become effectively free, used as a medium to drive people to live performances. Music is getting to the point where a computer program can make a song based on a formula, but it can't replaced the personal experience. People will attend concerts for the human touch; digital downloads and CDs (if they still exist) will be used to create an interest in the band.

One thing I'd like to see fixed is finding new music. There are so many web sites and web apps out there that cater to music lovers. But the quality is hit or miss. I like the concept of Last.fm but sometimes the music selection is sparse. And it makes it difficult to find music in certain categories, especially if I list a lesser known, foreign, or non-mainstream band.

iTunes is reasonably good but doesn't have much that isn't mainstream, especially European. I also don't like having the 30 second "trial" because sometimes you don't get a representative sample.

Music as a form of self-expression is a powerful means, and though th egeneral trend is to become more computerized, it's more and more that some folk elements and instruments are used.
