probelm with apache redirection configure


i have apache 2.0.46 installed on win2000
i wanted to control the 404 redirection
and i have made a ".htaccess" file with the lines :

ErrorDocument 500 /error.htm
ErrorDocument 404 /error.htm
ErrorDocument 401 /error.htm
ErrorDocument 403 /error.htm

and made the error.htm file
but is isnt working!!!
why?can any 1 help ?thanks in advance

Check to see if your httpd.conf settings are set up to 'ignore' .htaccess files.
