What is the difference between an Associates degree in Graphic Design and a Diploma?

What is the difference between and Associates degree in Graphic Design and a Diploma? I heard its business classes... What if the person has a bachelor’s degree in business and a Diploma in Graphic Design....would they still be hired....would they have an advantage in the hiring process? What kind of job would I get in web site design company if I have a Diploma in Graphic Design with a Bachelor in Business and what would the average pay be in Ohio?? In addition, Id likes to know if possible....what the best school for graphic design is in Columbus Ohio....

Re: Graphic design ............

Is a diploma similar to a certification? I haven't heard of the term "diploma" except in assocation with graduating high school.

My guess would be the more advanced degrees are designed to make you more well-rounded vs. a certification/diploma. They probably include classes that aren't necessarily related to graphic design but make sense from an overall scheme, e.g. business, math, history, etc.

If you want to work in the industry, it's generally better to get the highest degree you can. It shows you have the "stick-to-it-tiveness" that employers want and having a variety of classes shows how well you handle diverse subjects.

If you have enough knowledge to get a certification/diploma then just get one to pad your resume but don't necessarily rely on it to get you a good job. It may help you get your foot in the door but eventually you'll reach a ceiling; to bust through you'll have to have an actual degree.

You may want to ask several graphic design shops what they look for in new hires, especially what type of degrees they want. You may find that having one degree in graphic design and one in business is better if you want to move into management.

You will have a Bachelor Degree and a solid academic background. Courses in a variety of disciplines are available. You can learn techniques in a wide range of art genres. Many fine artists show their art in galleries, which gives the artist an opportunity to establish a reputation as well as to display and sell their artwork. You will have an Associate Degree (or Diploma) and develop your art and computer skills. Your academic coursework will be directly related to your future. Your portfolio reflects your experience with creativity, problem solving, and targeting a specific audience.
