How do I retrieve license key from Windows VISTA?

My windows vista license was lost and i need to format my computer. is there a way to retrieve the licence key either from the installation disc or from the computer ?

Call Microsoft Tech Support, Give them the Part Number under your CD, it goes something like X12-?????, give them the number and they will generate your Key
