Newbie set up apache webserver

Hi, I am very new to Apache and webservers. I am trying to configure my home computer as a webserver.

I've set up apache server and it runs well. I've configured my config file to listen on port 8080. The webserver works fine on my home network and can other computers on my network can reach my website, however I think my Verizon Westell 327w modem/router is not blocking incoming traffic. I have configured the router to port fwd to 8080.

I am using anybrowser.com to view my site. Its comes up blank with no message.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Bones

Re: Newbie set up apache webserver

If im not wrong, i think the default port for webpage would be port 80 ? if you forward your port properly i cant see why it isnt working, perhaps you should find out your true IP address from your router, and not the IP address from your local network.

might want to try xampp server, its easier to config imo, and comes with mysql etc all configured automaticall.

cheers.~

Re: Newbie set up apache webserver

Thanks for the help.

From what I understand port 80 is blocked by verizon, so I need to use another port.

I know the server is working. I can run my site from within the network. I am using PHP and mysql.

I am almost 100% sure its my router blocking the incoming internet traffic.

Any other ideas?

might want to try using port extension, eg access by google.com:8080

well if your sure its your router, than you really need to make sure all ports are forwarded properly and get your true IP

Re: Newbie set up apache webserver

Thanks I have confirmed through CanYouSeeMe.org - Open Port Check Tool that my port is OPEN.

"Success: I can see your service on XX.XX.XX.XX on port (8080)
Your ISP is not blocking port 8080"

So maybe its Apache....
