- For awhile now, this web site has been extremely slow for me. Above is a traceroute that I ran from my school computer.

According to bandwidthspeedtest, our internet here is very fast: Any ideas why I am connecting to this site so slow? I remember brining this up awhile ago, but nobody else seemed to have a problem. Any ideas on this one?
[I hope it is ok to post the IPs for the traceroute and I do not mind taking this to a PM if you prefer- others may be experiencing this same prob too though]

I am not sure... Scott has checked and this is what we know:

• The page generation times are still the same 'fraction of a second'.
• The server reports a load average of 0.00, 0.04, and 0.06.
• 1.8GB RAM used out of 6GB available.
• Idle is pinned at about 97%.
• Virtuozzo reports no failed attempt to grab resources.

A set of 100 pings from a remote server (at pair networks) produces the following:

• 100 packets transmitted, 100 packets received, 0% packet loss
• round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 35.814/37.058/71.697/3.856 ms

Let me know if things don't improve over the next couple of days, Bobby.

No improvement.... It takes so long to goto any page. Reminds me of my dial up days...

I am on a dialup - tell me about it

Of course you realise that I am on a 'shared' hosting thingy right? With 50 users online sometimes there is bound to be some sluggishness. I cannot compare the speed of this site with a forum run on a dedicated server or two.

I can't tell you much more. Your site is just sooooo slow. Compared to any other site, your site is at least 10 times slower.

Also, I just timed the front page of a popular forum = 13 seconds (with 2 dedicated servers).
Front page off this forum = 15 seconds

Surely not 10 x slower for me and like I said, I am using a 56k dialup modem, half way across the world!

In any case, we will be moving/upgrading the forums in a couple of days, things should be better, I am sure.

I hope so... this board is using a new set of rewrite rules. I was surprised just how little I knew back then when I wrote them for the first time. But yes, it was the inefficient rewrite rules that slowed down the forums previously. I only figured it out while testing this script with those old rewrite rules...

Anyway, it's all '...under the bridge' now!
