Question

Virtual Directories in Apache

I have virtual directories in set up on my Apache web server. However they don't show up when I browse a directory. Is there any way to make them visible?

Thank you

What happens when you attempt to browse the directory... 403 error, blank page, something else...?

If you are getting a 403, that is a normal security default, so that your server directory structure is not revealed to browsers (e.g., in error pages or to people who backtrack-dissect URLs). Not recommended, but you can add the following line to .htaccess:
Options +Indexes

No the virtual directories work fine, i just cant see them in the indexing. For example in my rootdir I have no files or folders but I have a pictures virtual directory that points to c:\my documents\my pictures\. When i go to localhost there are no files on my web server but if i go to localhost i can see the contents of that folder no problem. what i want is to see the link of the pictures dir at the root. get my drift?

Ok let me rephrase my question now that I know a bit more "Apache lingo" from reading a few websites.

Is there any way that aliases can appear in dynamicaly created indexes, even if I have to specify them manualy in httpd.conf.

There, does that sound better?

Thanks
