Chaintech Nvdia 5600FX xT AGP Card

I have just bought a new Nvidia Chaintech 5600FX 8X AGP Card to replace my old Geforce 4 MX440. Installation is usual but when I try to launch any game, (especially Need for speed Underground, Max Payne 2, Call of duty etc) the screen will turn blank (but game still running), or worse just hang. Have tried everything from installing and reinstalling the newer video driver, updating VIA 4in1 driver 442, nothing works.

So finally, I adjusted the AGP speed to 2X instead of 4X in BIOS setup, only than the game lauches without problems.

Since the AGP card is backward compatile to 4X AGP Slot, it doesn't make sense to just run at 2x.

The fast write is disable and the adjustment of aperture size doesn't help as well. So what am I missing?

Should I mess around with the BIOS and update it?

My systems :
EPOX 8K3A, AMD Athlon 1800+
Windows XP Pro with Service pack 1
Nvidia 52.16 detonator driver.

Can anyone help or any suggestion? A million thanks.

First I would say that if you know how to update your Bios and it’s been awhile since you have I would. Try downloading older drivers I would say the 45.33 you can find these in the Windows XP/2000 Driver Archive on the driver’s page. I also looked in the Nvidia FAQs and found this:
Quote:
"When I try to play a game, my monitor goes to sleep/turns black but I can still hear the game running. How can I fix this?
This generally means that your graphics card is running the game at a refresh rate higher than what your monitor supports..."

You can find the FAQs
here

and the older drivers here

Let me know if any of this helps.
