Why - Windows VistaHere is a point in upgrading to Windows Vista.
1. Better security for your computer less viruses. Even though if your careful you don't get them. 2. While it may be new it is by far the best OS Windows has produced. 3. Loads of new features to help you with your work. 4. There are different versions of Vista: Home Basic, Home Premium, Business Basic, Business Premium, and Ultimate 5. It's graphics are amazing. (Not really a reason but nice to have) 6. While it may be buggy SP1 for Vista coming out in the second half of the year I believe promises more features and of course any fixed bugs there are. Re: Why - Windows VistaHere is a point why not to upgrade:
1. It is likely not all your hardware is compatible 2. System requirements are much higher 3. Some programs are not yet / never will be compatible (especially games) 4. No feature in vista at the moment is unique to vista (although that will come with dx10 only things) Basically why update now and face all the problems which are common to new windows distributions when you can wait for everything to be fixed with a chance of lower price, better support and more compatible hardware. Re: Why - Windows VistaQuote:
I would have to disagree with you... I have been running Vista for a month and haven't had any problems what-so-ever... It's just the matter of using Google if you do face any issues... Sure Vista's features aren't unique however is anything these days unique? Look at the XBox 360 - it's a Nintendo 64, PS2 and a Computer all built in one (Yes I know that is a Microsoft product too). But what you have failed to notice is that even though the system requirements are much higher, they are justified with the performance and speed of Vista. As for the games, sure most of them aren't compatible at the moment but imagine the possibilities of games that are created for Vista itself - The detail that comes with it... It's like upgrading from a Playstation 1 to a Playstation 2... To be honest the people who have issue with Vista are usually the same people who have trouble with XP - They don't really know what they're doing so they complain... Here's a tip - Google it! |

Re: Why - Windows VistaI have to disagree with you again after reading numerous articles of people buying hardware said to be vista compliant by the manufacturers and having loads of problems and stability issues(google it).
Vista is not an option for someone with a low grade system or at least not an improvement. I am not saying that vista is bad I am saying that at the moment with the issues that exist (even if some could be solved by you - not everyone can) that upgrading a good and stable installation of XP without good reason will bring more trouble than advantages. Re: Why - Windows VistaIt's always been my philosophy, don't upgrade, if the upgrade doesn't provide something you need. That's why I'm still running Win2K, when I'm not in Linux.
Unfortunately, with the commercial nature of Windows, my Win2K is quickly going the way of Win3.11. They are doing everything in their power to obsolete their prior OS's. Hopefully, by the time my Win2K disk is a museum piece, Linux will be my only OS. Skip __________________

Re: Why - Windows VistaOne reason not to use Vista is DRM. The various restrictions it places on media can not only irritate you, it can also prevent you from using your media and computer how you want.
Though I don't use Windows except at work, I can't see any real reason to move to Vista. Stability may or may not be better (same with security) but there just isn't much to the feature set beyond GUI goodness to justify the expense. I've read many posts from people complaining about how slow their Core 2 Duo w/ 4 GB of memory run under Vista yet they scream when XP is installed. The facts may be different but there's enough anectdotes on the web to make me leary. __________________
