Can you show exactly what you pinged and what was the output? How about showing us the Ethernet configuration is on your workstation? Do the following:

Re: Can't access node in networkthe box is a custom made device. it contains a motherboard, power supply, a pci fusion 878a video decoder and a wifi card, linux os.
the interface of the config has ip address 192.168.99.15 when this is typed into internet explorer the interface opens up but when i type the ip address of the ise server being 192.168.99.16. i get no response. heres my ip config and ping responses Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. ping 192.168.99.3 Pinging 192.168.99.3 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.99.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.99.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.99.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.99.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Ping statistics for 192.168.99.3: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms ping 192.168.99.15 Pinging 192.168.99.15 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.99.15: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.99.15: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.99.15: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.99.15: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64 Ping statistics for 192.168.99.15: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms ping 192.168.99.16 Pinging 192.168.99.16 with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. I don't know if I am getting across to you that I can't possibly help since I don't have a clue as to how many things you have connected and how they are connected and what mode they are operating in. Etc., etc. Quote:
Now, as I look down near the bottom of your post, I see that 192.168.99.3 is the "Autoconfiguration IP Address" of your Winows XP box. Where are you pinging it from? If you are pinging it from itself, you haven't proven anything about network connectivity, but you are verifying some kind of functionality of the ping program. Quote:

Maybe someone else can step in. Bottom line: Where and how is "this box" getting its IP address? If your Service Provider requires IPV6 and "this box" doesn't have IPV6 enabled, then you may be out of luck in getting through to it. (Or not.) I still don't understand what kind of wifi network you are attempting and whether there is an Access Point or what. Regards, Dave |

Re: Can't access node in networkIm sorry. Im just really really new to all this and i dont know much about networking. The ping responses were from my computer and wel 192.168.99.15 was the default address of the config interface. This interface allows you to change network configurations.so i can change the ip addresses of the config and the ise server. I dont know what ise server is either its jus is displayed in the config interface. By typin the address of the ise server into internet explorer of the pc, an interface should pop up showin live video feed from a camera. Iv just got a pc connected to a hub via an ethernet cable and the hub connected to the box via another ethernet cable. Not usin the wifi right now jus tryin to work the box first. Am workin on a project for my degree and well no one helps you with it, u start from scratch and figure all the problems out by yourself. So they gave us this box, jus gave us those ip addresses, told us what it should do and told us to do it. So im sorry if im not providing the right info, its jus because i dont know. Thanx anyway ria

Re: Can't access node in networkQuote:
It appears that "this box" has two network interfaces. You didn't mention that before. Or am I missing something? Also, I asked for ifconfig -a and iwconfig on "this box" While you are at it, please do uname -a and lsmod on "this box" I still don't know what kind of "wifi" network you are trying to get operational and whether there is an Access Point or what. Re: Can't access node in networkok the box has a wifi card but im not running a wifi network. just using normal ethernet straight cables, for a normal wired lan.
hence iwconfig displays no wireless connections the network config interface of the box has limited network tools it has ifconfig, iwconfig, ping, servers, route,ps aux, uptime, ptz log I dont know of any other way to perform the functions you mentioned. Thanks Ria |

Re: Can't access node in networkQuote:

I stupidly jumped to the conclusion that your network connectivity problems were with wifi, since, in my experience, that is the single most likely troublesome part of getting any kind of Linux system up and running. That's what I was trying to get a handle on with "lsmod" and "lspci", etc., because that's where wifi setup troubleshooting begins. That's why I wanted to know about Access Points and other wifi stuff. I'm sorry for wasting your time and board bandwidth. Quote:
Oh, well, no matter. Get network setup information from whoever supplied you with "this box". I was trying to get you to give me information about whether "this box" is using a DHCP client to get the IP address. And where the DHCP server is on your LAN. Stuff like that. The technical support group for "this box" can, maybe, lead you through the exact sequence of questions and actions that are required. I thought that I might be able to help, but I just don't have enough ESP to get into the middle of things for you. Sorry. Regards, Dave Over and out. |
