Best software for a beginner website builder

Hello everyone,
I have a very simple question. I would like to know what any of you could suggest me as the best program for building simple html websites, for a beginner that barely know what html, link, or ftp is?
Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestion.
Regards

Re: Best software for a beginner website builder

just know the language(mainly the tags)...(html that is)and all you need is a text editor(e.g. notepad) and save it with the .htm / .html extension

you can also use dreamweaver or MS frontpage

ftp is file transfer protocol.. as far as I know its a protocol used to download files (mostly large size) ...(while web pages use http as a protocol)

Thank you much.

List of Web Design Software

When I created my first web page, I used Microsoft's FrontPage to do it. I had no clue what HTML was and yet, it was simple enough for me to create and publish my first web page (circa 1998).

Over the years I tried many other HTML Editors and it is not possible for me to suggest a particular software, they all work equally well. This old web page lists some of the software I was using at the time (ca. 2000): http://www.desilva.biz/editor.

Well, those were the days... Nowadays, I use Eclipse for everything (HTML, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, etc), and I use FileZilla (FTP and SFTP client for Windows) for downloading/uploading files from/to my web server. I need just these 2 things to maintain all my sites.

Expression Web is very easy. Frontpage is sort of going away and MS came out with Expression Web. It creates code much better but gets rid of the easy things that relies on Frontpage Server Extensions

Re: Best software for a beginner website builder

Last I heard Microsoft will be getting rid of Frontpage and replacing it with another product (I don't know the name or the when it will happen).

Personally I'd stay away from Frontpage because it makes you reliant on Frontpage extensions. These are little bits of code that do common tasks (such as a visitor counter) but they rely on the server having Frontpage extensions installed. If you design a site using the extensions and the server doesn't have them installed, then your screwed. And if you become too reliant on them, then again you're SOL if you have to design a site without them; you won't know how to do the same tasks using Javascript, PHP, or whatever.

If you want a decent, free HTML editor that will carry you from beginner to advanced (plus has many neat features and lots of Javascripts built-in) check out www.evrsoft.com.

Actually FPSE (Frontpage Server Extensions) are basically no more. People could see that coming when Microsoft released Frontpage 2003 but did not release a new FPSE version.

Microsoft Expression Web is a really good product that creates compliant XHTML and HTML
