Virus in tmp file

I have Trojan Horse within my tmp files. I have scan my computer a billion times with Norton. At first it was found and deleted but then i would try to play Counter Strike and it wouldnt come up. Because everytime i try to start up Counter Strike it would say the game unavaible. Few seconds later Norton would say AutoProtect the Trojan Horse. And i would find the virus in tmp files. The file it is called "c:\Documents and Settings\......\Temp\~FC.tmp." But the tmp file would keep changin eveytime i would start up Counter Strike. Like ~140.tmp,~FD.tmp, and etc. So as i went to go find this file but it couldnt be found.
I have also used AVG and spybot. So im really in need of help of getting rid of the virus. So please give me some advice/suggestion of getting rid of it. Thank you

Delete your temp file directory then reboot and boot into a safe mode DOS prompt. Change to your temp directory and delete it again, if it exists. Then, to make tripley sure (and if you own an Norton or similar CD) boot to the CD and run the virus scan. You can also try some of the online virus scanners.

Re: Virus in tmp file

yea..... i find out why there was a virus in my temp file. It was because Steam was trying to update but Norton stopped it. So Norton consider it a virus so they name it as Trojan Horse. I had to turn off autoprotect enabling it to update. BUt thank you for replying.

You might consider disabling Norton's auto-protect. It eats up CPU cycles without really doing very much good. The chances of you getting a virus are extremely slim unless you visit the seedier web sites or open email attachments without verifying them first. When surfing the web, the bigger problem is spyware which Norton AV won't protect against.

If you get rid of the realtime AV checker and just run a manual check every week or two, you should be fine. I never had a virus in the 11+ years I used Windows and I only did manual checks.
