When you put in your ME cd, it will prompt you with a few choices to pick from. There should be one choice that will say 'Re-install Windows ME' Then somewhere around that phrase, 'Please note this type of re-install will not delete any of your files' however, it will delete currecnt version of ME, and replace it with the one from the CD.

I would strongly suggest that you ditch ME, and either go to XP, or Windows 98. I am still using Windows 98. The only problem I will later down the road run into is not being able to install programs that require windows XP as the OS.

I am going to wait until there is a stable version of XP doesn't have a virus coming out for it every other week before I upgrade

ME is just a poor build on Microsoft's part. It rised up thinking it would be the bomb, now almost nobody uses it. Only people who use it really are those who purchased the computer from a manufacturer and they preinstalled it for you.

Good luck!

Heyyyyy! You've hurt my feelings now... I have been using Windows ME quite happily for sometime now...

On topic: If my memory still serves me well - yes, I think you can reinstall Windows ME without losing your existing / installed programs and it's quite painless even. I forget how exactly, since I haven't re-installed Windows in years!

Oh man! You use ME? I upgraded from 98 to ME for about 2 weeks and finally took it off to go back to 98! It doesn't even run Personal Web Server! lol... There are also a TON of driver issues.

Usually you need to find a driver update for things like printers, fax machines, and most external devices. Every time MS releases software, companies pay big bucks to get their drivers inside of the 'default windows drivers' except on ME, a lot of businesses didn't.

Good to see at least one person(JdS) is happy with ME. I haven't found one developer who likes it.

About 1 week ago, I was troublshooting my Grandma's Printer, called HP, and they told me I needed to install a driver specifically for the printer since I am on ME and ME doesn't have a default driver for the standard printer.

I have just had bad experiences with it. And I hear very bad things about the restore feature ??:

I am just being the miser that I usually am.... I don't want to pay for a new Windows just cause it's there!

Windows ME is not perfect, so what else is new?
