I'll see if I can find some of my pages that I have found on this subject. AMD may be cheaper and in some ways may out perform but the P4 is in most cases a lot more stable the AMD also runs hotter.

Just wounding which AMD is it that you were interested in putting up against the P4?

Ok, I'll look around. You may also want to take a look at this search from google that I did. See if you find anything there to help you.

ok wat i have gotten out of that is that amd does more operations per cycle and the down side of it is that amd has a slower bus speed am i correct so far

put it this way, both cpu's have Pros and Cons.

AMD XP
-Cheaper
-Faster in Gaming platforms

Intel P4
-Expensive
-But if are a software kinda person and do alot of graphics/video editing stuff get the P4

mehh wouldnt it be cooler having a 3ghz P4 CPU opposed to a 2ghz AMD CPU

hehehe

I'm not to sure about the price but I'm guessing there could be many different. If you’re like me, I never buy new hardware. In my opinion, it's a waste of money. If you wait just a few months, they have something new out and then you can go get what you want at a fraction of the cost. Like I was saying, I'm not to sure that AMD is the best for games any more-well at least if you’re Pentium has Hyper-Threading Technology. The chart below will explain this a little better than I can.

Pentiums also support a higher FSB than AMD does, at least for now but Pentiums come at a higher price. If you wait (like I said above), then there isn't much of a difference in price. Now as for the AMD, they have the new 64 bit CPU. I won’t go into much detail, as this chip overkill for most users, is at least for now. But there are a lot of advantages to this chip. I don't think that the 64 bit chip will stay overkill for long and I know that some businesses will start using it very soon. But has for home users, there are some that will like and use the chip now. This chip has what AMD calls HyperTransport™ Technology which is designed to increase overall performance by removing I/O bottlenecks, increasing bandwidth/speed, and reducing latency. HyperTransport™ technology is a new high speed, high performance point-to-point link for interconnecting integrated circuits on a motherboard. It can be significantly faster than a PCI bus for an equivalent number of pins. There are other advantages to this. Intel has had a 64 bit chip for sometime but due to the fact that the chip isn't x86 compatible which creates a big problem for all but the larges of companies. With AMD 64 chip, this was solved. Their chip is compatible with x86 which means it is compatible with all existing software. The last advantage and one of the most important (I think) is that this chip will do away with the 4GB RAM limit. A computer accesses it’s RAM to store and retrieve data, the processor needs the address of that location, which is an integer number representing one byte of memory storage. A 32 bit processor can access up to 4.3 billion memory addresses for a total of about 4GB. A 64 bit processor could conceivable access over 18 petabytes of physical memory. These are some of the basics of Intel's and AMD newer chips. Let me know if this helps you out.
