FireFox not using gzipped pages? After being told I wasn't fetching gzipped content from here I did a little searching. So I did a little searching on my own as well as using the gzip tester mentioned elsewhere in the forums.
The pages are definately gz encoded. But when I check the page info in FF2.0 I get a type of ISO-8859-1. So I went into firefox and opened up about:config. This is what I am seeing. network.http.accept-encoding gzip, deflate This is what I expected to see. But it seems I am not actually fetching that. Has anyone else seen this issue. I know for a fact that this used to work. I'm wondering if it a difference with FF2 vs 1.5. The only other thing I could imagine is that an add-on is causing the problem. So I disabled Web Developer with the same results. I guess I'll have to disable all installed add-ons and see if something is mucking with my content fetching. Mark __________________

Re: FireFox not using gzipped pages?Just a follow up. I disabled all add-ons and removed all private data with the same results.
Strange... __________________

Re: FireFox not using gzipped pages? And a follow-follow up. I tried this on another computer after DL-ing 1.5.11(?I think) and am seeing the same results. Strange.

Re: FireFox not using gzipped pages?I think a more accurate title would have been "Firefox not requesting compressed pages".
The problem is that the Accept-Encoding request header for your browser is either empty, or not set. I track visitors to GIDForums with this option turned off and you're always at the top of this list! Maybe you should try re-installing the browser or something. I doubt that Firefox 2 is shipped with this setting off. Even the popular web spiders fetch only compressed pages these days -- if a web site is serving them -- so you need to keep up with the times. |

Re: FireFox not using gzipped pages?Oh! I just read your recent post... You actually installed 1.5? and you're still seeing the same thing? Is the setting there, inside about:config?
You can search the search engines for [phpinfo], pick any one of the links, and look at the results under the HTTP Headers Information table. It should tell you what your browser is asking the server that is hosting the phpinfo page. |

Re: FireFox not using gzipped pages? Here is a shot from about:config on my laptop with FF2.0. I also saw the same thing from 1.5

Re: FireFox not using gzipped pages?Yes, that's fine but now you need to find out if your browser is actually sending the information to the server when it's requesting a web page. This is why I suggested looking at a phpinfo page.
