Re: Why not Frames?

Hi the main reason I would say is that frames stop search engine bots as they reach one page of your frame based webpage and go no further.

CSS or even tables are a better use of coding. Although some CSS gurus will tell you even tables is somewhat old hat, in coding terms.

Re: Why not Frames?

One of the biggest problems is that let's say a search engine spiders your website and when I do a search - I am taken to that exact URL, i.e. http://www.example.com/aboutus.html.

But on this page is just about us, no links to the home, etc because you have used frames. The user is basically "stuck" if they did not go to http://www.example.com first and click on About Us in the navigation

Re: Why not Frames?

Agree on that. The issue with frames is basically its limit when it comes to SEO (search engine optimization). I also personally don't like frames because of the usability factor. I find it harder to navigate websites with frames than those without. Plus, some sites that I've visited using firefox don't show the frames right. I'm not sure if it's a design problem, but I've encounter some sites that are missing the scroll bar on the side of the frame that allows you to see the rest of the content. You still have to right click on the frame and show that part only.

Re: Why not Frames?

Search engines can't spider websites with frames well.
