Re: need help with wireless

This will happen if you allow your computer, via power management, to enter into sleep/standby mode. Is this a possibility?

In Windows Control Panel, there should be an icon for Power Management. Your power settings can be set there. You might also need to check your BIOS since it can also have power settings.

So in your Power Options under the drop down menu "System Standby" it says "Never", is that correct?

When you change to the "Hibernation" tab, that is unticked?

If the problem isn't causes by the above then:

1. Right click 'Networking Places' on your desktop and choose properties, or click on 'Network Connections' in Control Panel.

2. Right click on LAN connection and choose properties.

3. Click on 'Configure'

4. Click on the 'Power Management' tab and untick the box there.

If it's none of the above then to help with the BIOS we'll need to know what motherboard you have.

Basically we're looking for something that times-out, closes your connection, or something like that. Some screensavers can do this also.

Re: need help with wireless

When you boot up, you may get a quick message that says something like: "Press F2 for options" (the actual message will depend on your board). If you don't get the message, look in your computer manual or your manufacturer's website; otherwise some common keys are Delete, F2, and Escape.

When you get into the BIOS settings, the menu should show you various options, one of which should be "Power Management" or a related title. Just look under that option and change the settings as needed.

Re: need help with wireless

I'm not too sure about this... I think I heard something about this at work before... But at times, your wireless connection may have an Idle timeout... There is a setting you can edit to change it and I think it would be in your router settings so check it out...

When you find the setting, change it to 0 ... Hope this helps
