What does GID, as in GIDForums, stand for, please?

"GOD" was taken...

Seriously? I don't know what it means anymore, it just seemed to fit. It used to be an acronym for "Gen.I Designs" but nowadays I don't think about it being an acronym even.

As in "Genie Designs"? If so that's quite a clever connection to programming. To the end-user I suppose a suitable application could appear to be such.
