Installing Linux (a rant)

I felt like a spot of self flagellation, so I briefly reinstalled Linux on a spare partition.

Did it recognise the broadband modem I have got installed?
Don't be silly, this is Linux, so of course it didn't

Did it recognise the printer I have attached?
Don't be silly, this is Linux, so of course it didn't.

Well did it recognise the scaaner?
Don't be silly, this is Linux, so of couse it didn't.

But don't you think that Linux is marvellous? Oh yes, absolutely the most wonderful operating system in the world.

It's surpassing itself, because it does usually manage the printer.

Re: Installing Linux

Yeah, we get it. You hate Linux. Why do we care? If it doesn't work for you, that's your problem. You don't need to keep posting about it here, especially if you aren't looking for help to fix your issues.

If you want to get it working, ask a question. If you just want to keep saying how awful Linux is, please do it somewhere else. The same things can be said about any OS so drop it already.

I think he's just having a bit of fun...

I actually thought that mathematician's post was kinda funny, it sure brought back a lot of memories!

I recommend a couple of episodes of "Little Britain" to understand this brand of humour

Re: Installing Linux

Well, I guess I see your point. It's just that, taking into consideration the other comments mathematician's made about Linux in the past, I figured this is just another tirade.

I apologize if this was supposed to be satire or funny. There just wasn't any context to put it with.

You know, when I think back on all of the troubles in my life --- every single one --- there is only one thing they have in common: I was there!

Re: Installing Linux

Sorry, I don't find any humor in this post either. And if it is supposedly humor it should be moved to the humor section. This post adds nothing to this forum. It is neither informative or asking a question that is supposed to be answered.

What humor section? Although I get a chuckle from time to time just about everywhere, I don't see a "humor" section anywhere on gidforums. Or is it your opinion that people should avoid attempts at humor on gidforums? Or, am I missing something? (Wouldn't be the first time.)

At the time of this post, I see more than 18,000 views of "Sunday Morning Humor" on this section of gidforums. I have to say that there were a few posts that I didn't find particularly humorous and even a few that bordered on Political Incorrectness, but the wonderful people who created and who administer gidforums left them there anyhow.

With a few years of love/hate relationships with various operating systems I was amused by the original post and the followups. That includes the ones that slammed the original post/poster. But that's just me. (And, apparently, abugilda33.)

Dave

Re: Installing Linux

Sorry Dave, I still don't find any humor in it or any value in it. I have spent a lot of time posting in the linux section for people that actually have an interest in investigating linux and this dribble basically offends me and every post that I have in here.

I will be the first to admit that Linux isn't for everyone. However, I thought the whole purpose behind GIDForums was to help people. Imagine someone searching for "Installing Linux" and finding this wonderful thread.

I haven't posted here for sometime and maybe it is best that I don't post here anymore if this is the kind of stuff that is promoted now.
