MY question is
ME developing a s/w Cross Platform File Explorer. This utility is same as our win or linux file explorer the only difference is that it displays all the available drives on ur system with the supported file system also. Means if u run this application on Win98 it display all drives either with FAT32, ext2, ext3 or NTFS and displays the available files and folders in that specific drives that is selected by user.

Now my problem is :
I want to know how to know how much partition my hard disk has and what type of file system they have. Second how to access the available files and folders in the selected drives.

Is their any API or STL or any method through which we can perform the above task .
Is it neccessary to use Assembly code to the above task.


ME using Linux Platform to develop the above application.
ME using GNU c++ to develop the above application.
Me using GTK or maybe some other s/w to develop Interface.

Can u suggest me some good tips how to complete the above task or u can provide me link through which i can read about all these
