Amazon Web ServicesI was looking to add some Amazon books to one of my sites and started looking at the Amazon Web Services (AWS). Does anyone have experiences using AWS? if so what script are you using? Thanks.

I'm desperately trying to think of where one of the AWS I've seen is, but I found this site: http://www.chipdir.nl/amazon/ which looks fairly handy. I hope that gets you started.

Thanks Rob. I checked out that script along with MrRat's cgi script and the Filzhut implementation.
The cgi one is great if you just want a full Amazon store, but I need a very niche sub-section so I have been trying to think if its even worth it. Right now I am going to try out the Filzhut script to see if I can customize it to my needs. Should be fun. |

Some of you have probably noticed that many Google SERPS are inundated with Amazon clones...I cringe at the thought of how much bandwidth Google probably sops up indexing these sites. For what it's worth I am going to go ahead and test a very small sub-section of Amazon's offering using a php/soap based script, only about 2k pages.

Oops, too late...
![]() In the words of an old Jedi master, "...there is another Ama.. Ama... Amazon clone". re: Google SERPS are inundated with Amazon clones You know, I NEVER think like that. I just do what I feel like doing. If I had thought like that I would never have started http://www.desilva.biz/; because when I was searching to learn in those days, nearly every site seemed to me to be a web designing or HTML or PHP tutorial website. So no, I don't think you or I should allow ourselves to be intimidated by what's already available online. __________________

Actually it seems like Google is starting to take notice.
(Comparing desilva.biz to these sites is apples to oranges) |

What I mean is that I am also designing an "Amazon clone" - as you put it.
I don't have any expectations, I just want to flex my PHP/MySQL/InnoDB/XML muscles and see what I can come up with... __________________

Are you still working this? I am seeing a lot of people going this route...I expect an even bigger explosion of AWS sites in the next few Google updates.

It's a bit delayed BUT it's coming... like I said before I don't really care if everyone is doing it; I do things to learn (that's the No.1 reason); if then the site takes off (despite all the competition), it's like icing on the cake

My concern is with some of the "complete Amazon clones". I would guess that a fully optimized Amazon clone can probably add up to 100k+ pages. That would make up about 0.003% of Google's dataset. If you have 1,000 of these pop up, they'll add over 100million pages and make up over 3% of Google. Eventually Google will notice all the duplicate data.
