hardware or software problem?

my daughter has on older pc, i built it. It is loaded with win 2000,it has 128mb of ram, pentium3, 500 MHz processor (yea...huh....lol).It did work a few days ago. just yesterday she couldnt download, then later last night she couldnt go online. i was browsing through her pc and seen the WINNT folder was gone...hmmmmmmmm.... lol. I tried to run the win 2000 disc again. i went into set up and moved cdrom to boot first. then she tried to install but it didnt work. so i retried it, and all it does is... goes to the first screen that tells u the info like bios, motherboard etc on the bottom it says press f2 to enter set up mode and when i do, it seems like its going to enter but returns to the same screen as before, except for this event error message is added,

"resource conflict -PCI network controller in slot 04
Bus:00, Device:10, Function:00

i dont THINK anyone has taken the shell off of the pc and messed around... she said no but you know kids and thier little white lies..anyways... how do i find out what this event error means and how to fix it?

Re: hardware or software problem?

The error message points to your PCI cards conflicting w/ either each other or motherboard resources. Find out what card is in slot 4 and try moving it to another slot. If it's a card that may conflict with onboard devices, e.g. audio or video, then make sure the onboard devices are disabled (if possible). You can always try removing cards and putting them back in one at a time to see if the error occurs again.
