Google does allow putting in "Images" via HTML code into the TITLES and META TAGs and BODY Text

They will show up as Cute/Eye-catching - Adorable images on Google SERPS

look for :
http://google-yahoo.com
and the HTML/Image placed in the TITLE

They also bow out gracefully and don't interfer with your Website's Optimization

I seem to remember someone mentioning it before, but what looks pretty in Googles SERPS doesn't always look pretty elsewhere. However, since Google is so dominant, this doesn't worry most people.
