Need help in scanner development

Hi Everyone

Can anyone telll me how a Pascal subset scanner can be developed in unix based c++? The scanner should be able to distinguish between the identifier and the reserved word(keyword) of pascal program.

The input to the program will be a .pas file containing pascal program. The output of the program should be traced on a file in which each term of the pascal program should be distinguished from the variable identifier.

I have tried to use lex analyser to developed the scanner. But I can't get the proper idea.

Your help will be greatly appriciated. Thank you
