More Geforce 5600FX problems

Taken out my Gladiac 920 card (GeForce 3) and popped in a XFX Geforce 5600 FX card (128MB).

The display is fine until I try and play games. The screen goes blank. The computer is still running and have to power down to resolve the problem. Have tried various nVidia drivers (old and new), updated the Via 4 in 1, still no change although it almost ran with Quake II until I tried Half life after that and same problem.

Has anybody any suggestions?

System: 1GHz AMD cpu on an Asus A7Pro motherboard with 1 GHZ RAM. Winsdows XP.

Thank you very much for replying.

My motherboard should have been made around November 2000 and the AGP Drive strength is set at Auto and AGP Fast Write is enabled.

It is a 4X AGP.

If it is set to manual you get an option of setting:

AGP Drive Strength P (Ctrl) & AGP Drive Strength N (Ctrl)
(Both with configuration options 0, 1, 2 ........F)

The graphics aperture size for AGP is set at 64MB although it can be increased to 256 MB.

I hope this is of assistance to you in helping me. I’m not too much up on tinkering with BIOS settings.

Ok first set the graphics aperture size for AGP to 128MB all this does is allow the graphics card to use 128 MB of system ram if it needs to. Or at lease that what I think it does if I'm wrong please someone correct me. In any case I have my set to that level and you computer has the same amount of Ram has mine so it shouldn't matter. Next in the bios setting is there a setting to change you AGP from a 4X to an 8X? I would also like you to update your drivers to the new forceware from nvidia. Who makes your video card?

My motherboard is a 4X AGP not an 8x and I am already running the latest nVidia drivers.

The graphics card is made by XFX

I tried looking up your card but XFX makes 4 four different 5600 cards. Here a list:

Quote:
PVT31FNC GEFORCE FX 5600 Ultra 128MB DDR DVI & VIVO
PVT31KNA GEFORCE FX 5600 128MB DDR DVI & TV Out
PVT31KRA GEFORCE FX 5600 128MB DDR DVI & TV Out
PVT31KNC GEFORCE FX 5600 128MB DDR DVI & VIVO

I'm not sure which one you have. There is also another possable with these cards if my memory servers me right these cards where rushed through development and products to keep Nvidia from falling to far behind ATI. I had heard of a lot of bad cards in this group this may be the case the first one I bought was bad it wasn't an XFX it was PNY. But if you can tell me what card you have I'll see if we can't get all of this solved and have you back up and running.

Do you have anything other than the monitor plugged into the video card like a pair of 3D glasses?
