Amy Winehouse

I have always been a big fan of Nina Simone and recently, Erykah Badu. So when I was listening to Rehab, a song I have never heard before, I was almost certain it was some new hit by Erykah Badu or some lost track by Nina Simone, remixed, remastered and released just now.

Searching for the song title, I found the singer: Amy Winehouse. I must admit I was totally surprised to find out that she's white... Really, I was not expecting that!

Of course, I just had to have the CD and I finally bought it yesterday.

My current favourites (one day later):
  1. Love is a losing game. (an excellent ballad).
  2. Rehab
  3. Me & Mr. Jones
  4. You know I'm no good

I am going to try to look for her first album: Frank, as soon as I am done listening to Back to Black. She's that good!

Re: Amy Winehouse

Very different from a lot of the current female artists around at the moment. It makes a nice change to hear something that isn't following the standard female/male singer formula.

Thanks for the link

Re: Amy Winehouse

She comes off as a bit mental but I think that is a good thing in a world without real 'rock stars' these days. She has made her own sound and style and that can't be a bad thing for music.

Re: Amy Winehouse

I really like number 4 on your list there... but on some of her songs there is a definite leaning to rap... so I won't be buying the album myself.

Must admit though, the rhythm in "You know I'm no good" really grabs my innards.

Re: Amy Winehouse

She's pretty good but I don't see her as being very original from what I've heard(1970's r+B),and image wise another Janis Joplin, probably just an "image"
she portrays.She's allright.

I totally agree...If I could listen to her music without having to look at her pathetic image I'd much prefer it...but everywhere you look (MTV, Awards Shows, MuchMusic, VH1) there she is with that stupid fat lip look...ick! Sorry, just my sad little opinion! lol!!
