More surprises on the way?
With the number of candidates campaigning to be mayor reaching double digits, it is hard to keep up. Dallas' wide-open mayor's race prompted some daydreaming last month about the possibility of pleasant surprises jumping in the race. Voters were left wondering whether any community leaders who had not been involved in politics might give it a go. Larry James, the president and CEO for Central Dallas Ministries, falls into this category.
Now, Mr. James has not yet given any indication that he is ready to run. But he has been pondering the question of what he would do if he were elected Mayor of Dallas. So, far he has 16 items on his to-do list. Priorities include: establishing a Southern Sector Authority, championing DART, improving air quality, and developing the new homeless assistance center.
While political scientists surmise that a www.darrelljordanformayor.com from the south may be able to secure the support of the southern sector, they also do not completely rule out the Hispanic and Black candidates in the race. The only Hispanic candidate so far in the mayoral campaigns is a lawyer named Roger Herrera. Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill is the only Black candidate who may run in the elections. But as of now, Hill still has not confirmed his candidacy.
