Re: how do u guys know????Classes, online tutorials, books, and practice. You can learn a lot by going to the library or just poking around the Internet. But you still have to put it to use otherwise you won't actually learn anything. You can have all the theory in the world but it won't help you because theory rarely matches real life.

Re: how do u guys know????Just do a search for whatever you're interested in, e.g. "C++ tutorials". Or, if you can try the main site for the technology, such as www.python.org, www.perl.org, or java.sun.com.

Re: how do u guys know????Different languages are designed to do different things. Many of them are cross-platform, meaning you can write one program and run it on another operating system (e.g. Python, Java, Ruby). Some are for web site scripting (e.g. PHP, Javascript, Perl). Some are for low-level systems programming (e.g. C, C++). Others are application builders (e.g. Visual Basic.NET).
It mostly just depends on how you want to work with the code. I prefer Python and Ruby because I don't like having to make simple data structures from scratch everytime, like lists and mappings. Some people like the control or need to manage how the program works w/ the hardware, like game programming. __________________
