Ghost 2003 with DVD Sony DRX-510UL

Hi,

I want to take back-ups of the PC of our clients, because they have very particular configurations of PC.

Therefore I bought Norton Ghost 2003 and the external USB DVD-writer Sony DRX-510UL (recognized as DRU-510A in W2K).

My intention is to create a bootdisk to detect the device and start ghost.exe.
So far, so good.
I succeeded to create that boot-disk. The DVD-device give signs of reaction at the time the USB-drivers for DOS are being loaded.
But once in Ghost, in the destination-field, the DVD-device does not appear.

Any suggestions? I already tried evrything suggested on the site of Symantec.

Best regards,
Salvator

i think you wil find your problem si not with ghost, but the dvd burner.. are u entriely sure its set up properly? tested playing some dvds with it? tested writing a normal dvd - when not using ghost? i also have ghost. but only use an internal cd-rw.. sorry.
on another note though - wil u really be able to back up a whole hard drive to dvd? im thinking of buying another hard drive to back my current one up on...

Hmm, yeah it soulds like the DVD isn't properly setup in DOS. I wasn't aware that USB could operate in DOS anyway. Can you operate the DVD in DOS at all? If you can allocate it a drive letter in DOS, then you're job's done.

Why don't you just place the image on another partition of the HD, then burn it to the DVD in Windows?

i think gareths message hit the nail on the head
even when / if u get your dvd burner set up correctly u wil never be able to use it to ghost - because of the simple fact USB connections wont work when in dos - hence u wil never be abel to ghost with it, u wil need an internal burner with ide cable
annoying i know, but thats life :-(

how to use dvd burner in dos

[quote=salvator]Hi,

salvator,
i had the same exact problem as you do have, i solved it and it took 2 days to find out the problem..
i can send you the config.sys and autoexec.bat that will enable you to see your back up image in dos..
so that you can recover your file by using ghost.exe

Hello j_spekulator,

Even if salvator is no longer interested in the solution, please post any information you can share (or upload the example files here in this thread) because it may help others with a similar issue in the future.

I too would be very greatful for the instructions or 2 files you setup that worked. I have been trying without any luck to get ghost 7.5 to work with my external Sony.

Thanks in Advance!
