There is not, and has never been, an Autocad release for Linux (Original versions ran on Sun UNIX workstations; they wouldn't work on a Linux-based PC even if you could find a copy.)

Some people have reported satisfactory operation of Windows versions of Autocad running under the "wine" program on Linux. For example: Look Ma...No Windows!

Now, before we get a ton of "contributions" from people who haven't tried it, and who have the knee-jerk response that "wine" (Wine is Not an Emulator) "would probably be too slow", some people who have tried it report that the wine/Autocad combination is actually faster than what they saw on their old Sparc workstations. See Footnote. (Your Mileage May Vary)

Best of all: wine is open-source and is supplied with many (most?) Linux/GNU distributions. Of course you do need to install an authorized (licensed) Windows version of Autocad in order to use it. You run wine and you get the equivalent of a Windows desktop. You install and execute Windows based programs there.

Regards,

Dave

Footnote: Not every Windows program runs under wine on Linux platforms, and some of really are slower. But look here for a small pep talk: http://www.winehq.com/site/myths
