SFC / RPC Error

i had a virus on my computer that is now gone, exept i connot use my printer now. i get this error when plugging it in:

ive tried everything, when i run "sfc /scannow" i get this error:

"The appication failed to initialize properly. Click ok to terminate"

i was wondering if there is anything i can do to fix this.

i also have the windows XP cd and tried to do a repair, but i dont know what commands to use to just repair that problem.

Thanks

Re: SFC / RPC Error

I'm assuming the Windows CD you have available is an installation CD. If it is you will know by now that, when you boot up from it, you have to wait for it to load the system files, and then you are presented with the options:

To set up Windows XP now, press Enter

To repair a Windows XP installation using recovery console, press r

To quit setup without installing Windows XP press F3

Contrary to what you might think, what you need to do at this stage is to press Enter. After so doing you will be presented with a licence screen, and invited to press F8 if you accept it. Having pressed F8, your hard disk will be scanned for any existing installations of Windows XP. If any are found (as they will be) you will be presented with the options:

To repair the selected Windows XP installation press r

To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing press Esc

At this point you should press r. Do not press Esc!! All of the existing operating system files on your hard disk will then be deleted, but your apps and data will be left intact. Having deleted the operating system files, Windows will then proceed to reinstall itself. Before doing any of the above, make sure that you have got your Windows product key available, because at some point during the reinstallation you will need it.

You might then need to reinstall the printer's device driver from the CD which came with it; or else download a driver from HP's werbsite.
