Math Formula: FORECASTI am looking for a simple math formula to 'forecast'.
Let's say I have 2 sets of 'related' numbers: Code:
Given that I have this 'historical' data, is it possible for someone to show me a really simple formula to predict / forecast the value of Y if X = 16? __________________

This is pretty complicated algebra required. Are you testing us or don't you know?

Forecast usually means statistically. In which case your sample is probably too small.

Well, it's not that complicated. I did interpolation (what this kinda problem is called) last year in Uni, have just kinda forgot the details
How to program it might be tricky though, as it'll be dealing with polynomials of unknown degree with coefficients that'll vary in time. A more accurate/complex algorithm comes to mind, (it works nicely on paper on my lap) but it'd be a struggle to code. There is a simpler one, I'll look it up & post up tomorrow! GF |

Thank you for your replies...
Rob, I really don't know... Div, for the sake of brevity I just put 5 lines in my example. The actual data I have is over 12 - 18 months worth... Garth, I am looking forward to your suggestion... __________________
