What's new in Mozilla Firebird 0.7

Since the 0.7 release is imminent (scheduled for October 14th), I thought I'd point to a change list from 0.61 to 0.7 here:

http://www.squarefree.com/archives/000107.html

It shows new features, important bugfixes, regressions and stuff you should know. There's loads of changes and the 0.7RC build I'm using at the moment is running rather nicely.

You'll be able to get the new version at http://www.mozilla.org

Thank you for the advance notice: I was about to download the Firebird (for Linux) this weekend but I guess I will wait for the new version to be released.

Mozilla Firebird is an excellent browser!

I downloaded Mozilla Firebird for Windows yesterday... yeah, finally!

Just a couple of hours of use and I have made it my default browser - good stuff...

If there is just ONE thing I like about it; it's the one-click (middle/scroll button) to open a link in a new tab-thingy.

Yay good for you Jay

Now its your turn to experience the wonders of fully customising Firebird, go to http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/ and check out some of the great extensions.
I recommend:
All-in-one gestures
Things they left out
Tabbrowser Extensions
Mozex
Magpie
AdBlock

There are loads of others worth checking out, but these are ones that are very commonly praised and I use the first 4.

Can I create web page links to open in a new tab with Mozilla Firebird?

Say Rob, you've been using this browser for a bit longer than most of us and I know you spend sometime on their support forums... did they ever discuss how a web page link can be 'coded' to open the web page in a new tab?

I know there's nothing in regular HTML that should allow you to do this... but you never know if they've (Mozilla) somehow added some custom / proprietary tag that will accomplish this...

Nope I'm afraid that particular feature is non-existant since it isn't within the W3C instructions for usage of HTML or XHTML and it would be hypocritical for them to make their own markup like Microsoft did with IE. Tabbrowser extensions has a single window mode, which forces new windows into a tab instead, but there's nothing within the default installation.

This is something I queried about myself a while back since I didn't want people to be disappearing off my site, but there really isn't a perfect option at this moment in time.

Good! Now that we've got that out of the way... time to get into this 'extensions' stuff...

If you could just make ONE recommendation; which would it be? Remember, I am with the ISP-from-hell here, so one download per week is just about right...

There are two versions for linux. The normal one:
MozillaFirebird-0.7-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz

and the one with Gtk2 and Xft
MozillaFirebird-0.7-i686-linux-gtk2+xft.tar.gz

There are also optimised builds made by the great Aebrahim, which are enhanced for different processors. The Athlon XP enhanced one flies on my machine.

Check out a big collection here: http://www.pryan.org/mozilla/firebird/
