Re: New G5The G5 isn't available anymore; it's been replaced by the Intel chips. Is that what you mean?
The benchmarks show the new Intel chips scream past the original PowerPC chips, even the G5. If you have the money, get one of the new computers. You'll love it. __________________

Re: New G5Yeah the Intel is the one I'm talking about. Just wondering if it is worth the money to upgrade. My current machine is a dual 2.0 with 8G of ram.

Re: New G5If it does what you need it to for right now, then why bother? Prices will drop and speed will increase the longer you wait. Plus, if you really need a new computer right now, at least wait until next year when Leopard comes out. That way you don't have to worry about upgrading your OS right after you buy a new computer.

Re: New G5Part of my problem is I feel I am pushing the limits of this machine. I will run as many as 50 open windows and 10 or so apps. I run dual widescreen monitors and wonder if I am just pushing this thing to hard.
I must say thanks to Apple for developing a product that will regularly handle this with no problems. Even though it is getting older it still seems faster than a lot of PC's on the market. __________________

Re: New G5How often are you getting the "spinning beach ball"? My eMac gets it a lot so I'll be maxing out my memory after Xmas. I don't know how much it will help but hopefully it will let me creep along a bit longer until I can save up for a new system.
If you haven't maxed out your memory yet, you might consider it. It's cheaper than a new system, though nothing beats the feeling of the new hotness. Can you write it off on your taxes? __________________
