Question

Computer won't recognize hardware: Sony DVD Rom

I got a Sony DDU1612/DDU1621 16X IDE DVD ROM and we put it in but the computer doesnt recognize any new hardware. We restarted a few times, unplugged it and plugged it back in and nothing comes up. It openes and closes just fine, but theres nothing the PC picks up on. It doesnt even have an icon in My Computer.

Any suggestions?

Check the jumpers on the DVD ROM. If you don't understand how or need any more help or this doesn't work let us know.

I fought with the darn thing for 2 days but I finally got it to work. I have the DVD rom set as Master but I left the cd burner unplugged. If I plug that in as slave, will the PC pick up on it?

I got lucky with the DVD rom because I tried it and it didnt look like it would work but after a few minutes, the icon turned into DVD.

If the burner and the DVD are on the same IDE cable. If the DVD is set to master set the Burner to slave and that should work.

Let me know if this works.

argh... it just picks up the CD burner now. Darn.

Its like it will only pick up one and if both are connected, only the burner will show up.

How many IDE devices do you have in your computer?
