Recently I have finished a website and now I have a general question. How to start promote it ? I have submitted it to SE, made SE friendly already. I know a number of methods of website promotion like link exchange, PPC, directories, newsletters, etc. I'm sure these methods works right. But which method is the best for a brand new start ? Should I use paid methods or free? Or should I use a complex of them? How do you start with your new website promotion ? I'll highly appreciate if you share your experience with me. Thank you.

If its a brand new site go for Press Release then submit it to the SEO friendly directories.

I'd connect with other site owners which are sharing the same field of course.
You may also add a blog to blog.yoursite.com and add it to technorati.

mike filsaime is a well known web marketer (probably the most famous now) that has a site (which I can't recall for the moment but do a search - he has MANY sites) . In short, when you want to launch your product or site, he helps you to gather with hundreds of more affiliates which are called "JV Partners". You may conduct a search for this term, too.

It would depend on how much budget you are willing to set aside for your advertising and marketing.

SEO (link building through directories, forums, blogs, sb sites, etc) + Paid ads (PPC, banners, text links, offline ads, etc.) = more Targeted Traffic

Link building, traffic promotion and advertising size and speed are completely depend on your budget.

And you should also work according to your budget.

There are lots of way for free traffics like social bookmarking, social networking, forum posting etc.

You can use free method also for traffics to your site.

I found that the most consistent and reliable way to promote a website is to use a combination of

1. A Frequently updated blog
2. Article Marketing
3. Forum Postings

Everything else can be added on later.
