no display, new mobo?Recently i noticed that my cpu fan had started to loose rpm quite a bit while my wife's computer was running. I decided to replace it and two other fans that had started to get worn out.
I picked up a zalman cpu fan for a 775 p4 (wich required a mounting plate on the back of the mobo) Replaced it and several case fans. After reasembling the entire computer I attempted to turn it on, and i get no display what so ever. Thinking first that i had a bad connections somewhere i turned the computer off, checked all my psu connections, IDE, sata, and PCI. Didn't see anything wrong. I then switched monitors out to check if was a monitor problem. Same result. I switched out video cards to check that. Still same result. So I'm starting to wonder if there could be a problem with the PCI-e slot on the mobo. Has anyone heard of this happening before? I took at look at the slot and don't see any obvious problems with it, and i'm hesitant to take the computer into a local store and pay 75 dollars for them to just look at it. Any ideas? I'm also wondering if my removal and reinstall of all the hardware could have caused this problem. I am about to try and reset the bio's and mobo to see if this helps anything what so ever. Re: no display, new mobo?Do you get any error code beeps on boot? That would indicate a video problem. If not, then your computer is identifying that video is present.
Does your mobo have onboard video? It's possible the video card slot is deactivated because of that. If all you did was swap out fans, it should be working. Perhaps you static zapped the board(s), though they're fairly resistant to that nowadays. You might want to double check the CPU is seated properly; it's not directly related to video problems but hey, you never know. __________________

Re: no display, new mobo?No beeps or anything, in fact it sounds as if the computer is starting up perfectly fine. Other than the fact that my monitor is recieving no signal.
The computer is a self build, no onboard anything other than USB, p9, and a Cat5 connection. Resetting the onboard bio's did not seem to have any effect. About to strip the processor down and reseat it to see if this clears anything up. Although if the processor was not seated correctly you would think the computer would give some type of error beep. |

Re: no display, new mobo?Once when I didn't seat a CPU correctly the system wouldn't even boot. It could just be a bad connection.
Do you have a PGA processor or is it the Intel chip that only has flat metal connection points with the pins inside the CPU socket? The non-PGA chips (I don't recall the actual name) have known to have connection problems if removed often. __________________
