TDK VeloCD will not burn

I have a TDK VeloCD 48/24/48 burner. It worked since last october, but now for some unknown reason, it will not burn. Some things happened before it entirely pooped out though.
I accidentally shorted out my PS because a bare fan power adapter touched the case. However, for a while after this everything worked fine. Then it would halt burning. I would have to manualy restart the PC for the drive to respond. It would get stuck with the red burn indicator light on. It would not respond. Then I tried a lower speed 24X it worked flawlessly. However, the next time i burned a CD i used 40X and the thing did the same thing. I restarted the computer and tried again. This time Nero had greyed the dropdown speed selector. It defaulted to 4X. Even though it says it can burn at 4X now every time i try and burn a CD the burner freezes and the red light stays on and i have to restart. Even with all this though the drive reads CDs ok. Please help me i know not what i am doing here!

I would say that it a safe bet that you’re right that it was damaged. But just in case try uninstalling the drivers and software and see if that helps. I had a bad burner one time that did the same thing to me I didn't short anything out but the burner stopped working it would read CD’s just won't burn. Try uninstalling the drivers and software and try again.

Let us know what happens.
