How to create or display an image

I would like to display image data written in a medical image dicom file (*.ima)
The file contains header information and image data. I am able to extract the image data from the file. Now I have two arrays that contains the X(width) and Y(Height) image data. The main question now is, how can I display this image data ?

Should I create a .jpg or bmp?

Suggestions are very welcome!
