We never did well on anything but MSN (thanks to our resident zealot: jrobbio), Yahoo, Google and to some significant extend AltaVista.
Everything else is a trickle... __________________

JDS you forgot to mention that you haven't spent a penny on advertising the site. There's obviously no way you could appear in the sponsor sections without removing cash from yourself
However, news that I've heard is that sometime in the future MSN will drop Looksmart and therefore Zeal even if their search engine isn't mature enough. They'll also certainly drop Inktomi and Overture since they'll be paying all their money to their opponents, Yahoo! IBM have recently set up a search scheme for business enterprises where you will pay to search vast quantities of data. Sounds like a very clever revenue plan if you ask me although it won't be for the regular consumer. Rob |

IMO, it would make sense for M$ to just buy Looksmart. If you look at the lineup Yahoo has assembled (Ink, Altavista, Alltheweb, Overture, and their directory), the competition will need a (couple of) search engines, a directory and a PPC option. Looksmart can provide MSN with a directory, Wisenut and Grub.

If you look at the history of Microsoft they have a very smart way of buying up the competition after they've bought up themselves. However, I would be very surprised if Google's and Yahoo's owners (some who have bits in Google too) let MSN purchase them and there are only a couple of decent PPC companies unparchased left. Whether MSN resort to DMOZ for seeding rather than purchasing Looksmart is questionable. Grub still isn't being taken seriously because no-one can see any results yet. As soon as that happens we may see shockwaves, or it may just fizzle out depending on if they can capture the imagination of the webmaster community.
With Altavista on the cards to be struck off the list of search engines, Wisenut and Gigablast are the only exciting prospects unless you count MSN search that scares the life out of me. |

Yes, that's true... but that may all change in the future. I have been looking at AdWords with intent to use it to promote my upcoming site(s). Though I still don't believe in paying to be on SERPs... that's just plain useless. __________________

Can you imagine if M$ managed to get a hold of something like Grub...added it (kinda like the various spyware) to MSN messenger and pretty much forced you to do work for them during your unused cycles/bandwidth. It would be ballzy but with the reach of M$ products, it would be a tremendous distributed platform.
